SIGNIFICANCE OF NATIONAL FLAG THAT WE MUST KNOW


The Flag of India, adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 22 July, 1947, is the symbol of our nation's freedom and sovereignty. The flag was accepted as the national flag of the Dominion of India between 15 August 1947 and 26 January 1950. Display of the flag of India is regulated by the Indian flag code.The flag of India is a horizontal tricolor with the ratio of the length to the width 2:3. The flag has deep saffron at the top, white in between and green at the bottom. A navy blue color wheel, having 24 spokes, occupies place at the center of the white band. Source of the wheel is the Dharma Chakra (the wheel of law) in the Sarnath Lion Capitol. The saffron color signifies courage, white purity and green fertility.Code of Conduct» Saffron color band should should always be on top. » There should be no flag or emblem above the National Flag or to its right. » If in a line, all other flags are to be placed to the left of the National Flag.» While in procession or parade, the National Flag should be on the marching right or the center of the line.» The National Flag or its any imitation is not allowed to used for promoting trade, business or profession.» Normally the National Flag is flown over significant government buildings like the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Parliament House, the Supreme Court of India, the High Courts, the Secretariats, the Commissioners' office etc. » National Flag should be taken down in the evening at sunset.
